Hetty Eddy has been a life long Democrat. She has been actively involved in promoting women’s rights and political issues since before she moved to Salinas in 1977. After moving to Salinas, she became involved with the Salinas Child Abuse Prevention Council and Planned Parenthood. She returned to teaching as an elementary school teacher in the City of Salinas. She taught for 32 years and during that time she was also on the Board of Trustees for the Washington Union School District for 20 years. She was active in the Salinas City Elementary School District teachers union as a negotiator and President.
After retirement, Hetty was able to devote her time to local political issues in the Toro Area, by serving on the board of LandWatch and the Toro Area Sewer Coalition. She continued to work with children as a volunteer and a board member with Girls Inc. of the Central Coast. In her free time she teaches bridge at the Monterey Bridge Center, reads, knits and loves to hike.
