Fair Representation for All: FairVote California Director Jennifer Pae & Deputy Director Hernandez

How do we bring civility to our elections and increase voter participation? How can we ensure that every vote counts? Join us when FairVote California’s Jennifer Pae and Pedro Hernandez address these issues, including ranked choice voting, the Top Two primary system, gerrymandering, and electing more women to office. Jennifer Pae and Pedro Hernandez will present how electoral reforms can give voters greater choice and a stronger voice in our elections at the local, state, and national level.The public is welcome to attend.

Jennifer Pae, raised in California’s Central Valley, is the Director of FairVote California. Her commitment to empowering community through civic engagement was shaped by the experience of her single immigrant mother. Ms. Pae is a first-generation college graduate from UCSD. She was the president of the United States Student Association, Project Director for PowerPAC, founding staff member of, and Project Manager for Voter Service at the League of Women Voters of California, where she continued her work to engage young people, women, and people of color in the political process. Ms. Pae trains hundreds of activists to run effective and strategic campaigns.

Pedro Hernandez is FairVote California’s Deputy Director. He grew up in Watsonville, the son of immigrant agricultural workers, and served as student trustee for the local school board. This set in motion his commitment to community empowerment. He earned his J.D. from the UC-Hastings College of the Law where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Hastings Race & Poverty Law Journal. He served as an Education Equity Fellow at Public Advocates and clerked at the Equal Justice Society. He was an extern for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, and clerked in the Watsonville office of California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA).
