Anna M. Caballero was elected in 2018 to the California State Senate to represent the 12th Senate District, which includes the Salinas Valley, San Benito County, Merced County and portions of Stanislaus, Madera, and Fresno Counties. Due to redistricting, the Salinas Valley will become part of SD 17. Senator Caballero is now running in 2022 for Senate District 14.
Monterey County not only lost Anna Caballero as our State Senator, but the voting power of the majority Latino population of Salinas and the Salinas Valley has been severely weakened.
How did this happen?
What role did local leaders play in the redistricting process?
Will the new districts be detrimental for Monterey County and Salinas Valley?
Where do we go from here?
