Marina Police Chief Tina M. Nieto and Pacific Grove Police Chief Cathy Madalone have unique perspectives on individual and community safety, violence, and gun ownership. They also have insight on where women stand on these issues.
Marina Police Chief Nieto began in her current position in 2017. She supports the Department’s efforts in building community partnerships and public safety. Nieto learned first hand about the importance of community policing during and after the 1992 riots in LA where she served as a police officer with the LAPD. As she moved through the ranks she helped rebuild community – police trust. In 2008 she became the first Latina captain in the LAPD’s 39-year history.
Pacific Grove Chief Madalone will begin her new position on June 10. She has been police chief of Bergenfield, NJ, for the last four years of her 24-year career in law enforcement. When Madalone started out as a police officer she made history as the first woman hired by the Bergenfield department. She rose through the ranks and made history again in 2015 as the first female police chief in Bergen County. She also has a strong commitment to community policing.
